NASA Technologies Helping Firefighters

NASA technologies are advancing the way firefighters are able to detect wild fires. This video describes Ikhana, the Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) that NASA is using for not only scientific studies but also to help firefighters control wild fires. Ikhana is able to take images through smoke and haze to detect hot spots and changes in temperature. These images are then transferred to NASA and sent to help firefighters.

Advancement In Airpack Technology

Here is a video clip showing the new style or airpacks that will hopefully be introduced to the fire service within a couple years.  These packs are designed to make our jobs much easier as they are much lighter and flexible which will enable a firefighter to get more 'working time' from a single air pack.  This extra working time may only be a few minutes, but could be enough to go that extra stretch to save a life.

One of our goals as firefighters is to come home safely after each and every shift.

This video shows what can happen with uncontrolled environments and gives you an idea of why we have to constantly train the way we do.

Crews Kept Busy Throughout The Night

Posted by kelfire - on Tuesday, October 28, 2008 @ 20:59:05 MDT
Fire Related
Our crews were kept busy last night with two structure fires in the Rutland area.

The first fire in the Black Mountain area was reported by the occupants saying they could smell smoke coming from the attic area.  It turned out to be an electrical problem in the attic and was quickly controlled before spreading to the rest of the house.

The second fire occurred in the Felix Road area which had flames showing from the upper unit of the duplex.  Our crews quickly extinguished the fire and contained the damage to the roof, deck, and kitchen area.  Water damage was minimized to the lower unit as salvage tarps were laid out to protect valuables.

No injuries were reported.

Please think twice about what you store in your home!

Miami Firefighters had to deal with this house fire that had fireworks stored inside.
