Harmful Chemicals In Toys

Posted by kelfire - on Wednesday, December 09, 2009 @ 10:05:28 MST
General Information
Two years later and we're still finding harmful chemicals in our childrens toys?  How do your kids' favorites rank?  The 3'rd annual Consumer Guide to Toxic Chemicals in Toys can be found at www.HealthyStuff.org.  Use the program below to check how your kids' favorites test.

Select your category from the drop-down list and enter your search terms in the text box. You may search on product name, UPC, brand, and level of concern. NONE, LOW, MED, and HIGH are reserved words and if added to the search will filter the results based on level of concern.

Select the Toys category. You can search for products by name (such as Barbie, Hannah, or Football), a brand name (such as Fisher-Price, Hasbro or Maggie), a product UPC code (a number, like 678634798268), or the overall level of detection in a product (High, Medium, Low, or None). These searches can be combined, e.g. (Barbie Medium or Hasbro Low).

NASA Technologies Helping Firefighters

Fire Related
NASA technologies are advancing the way firefighters are able to detect wild fires. This video describes Ikhana, the Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) that NASA is using for not only scientific studies but also to help firefighters control wild fires. Ikhana is able to take images through smoke and haze to detect hot spots and changes in temperature. These images are then transferred to NASA and sent to help firefighters.
